This is my review of the Sycophant Rapier. I own this weapon and just purchased it from the company here.
Material: The blade is made out of 440 Stainless Steel, according to a stamp on it. It says 'China' underneath that.
Condition: For the price of the rapier, you get a decent 'basket hilt' which wraps around from the crossguard to a guard infront of the wielder's knuckles. For people with larger hands, it may be necessary to reposition or carefully bend the guard back a little to fit in well. The weapon I purchased had a damaged tip, which appears to have been chipped, and the blade appears to retain a very slight bend or warp. Dispite this, the weapon is very visually appealing and for the price, it would accent a wall or costume with a sense of elegance and style.
The weapon seems sturdy, does not shake within it's guard at all. The wire wrap--two wires twisted then wrapped around the hilt--is decent, though slightly loose in a few places.
The welds on the pieces of metal for the basket-hilt--I'm calling it a basket hilt because though it almost looks like swept metal, it appears to have been spot welded to the guard--are somewhat weak. If one were to bend it, they should be aware of this and be careful as to not break them off.
The best feature of the weapon is the Sheath, I have never seen a nicer sheath on a weapon of this price. I was sincerely impressed with the quality of the wrapped leather and how sturdy it felt.
Overall: For the price and what you get, it's decent. Perhaps a little too expensive for someone looking for perfection without re-mortgaging your house, but you're looking for it in the wrong place. This is an inexpensive sword with a good visual appeal and would work well on a wall or on a costume. The weapon can be swung around, but do not try to hit anything with it.
