To be a Samurai one must understand that death is only a part of life, and to fear it is foolish. A Samurai embraces death, and by doing so finds peace. Peace with life, peace with service, and peace with death. The Bushido or Way of the Warrior was the philosophy that the Samurai followed.
Samurai were excellent warriors, masters of fighting, horseback or ground. With a ritual routine, every morning they would rise to practice, and in the evening they would mediate and find their core, or freedom from fear. As battles changed, the Samurai began to focus more on his sword, and less on the mastery of his horseback combat. The original swords of the Samurai were straight but as their fighting techniques evolved so did their demand for a curved blade and stronger steel. Often the Samurai would name his sword because they believed it was the soul of their warriorship. To this day the Samurai still have a power that entrances us all and causes us to wonder what they were truly like. To find the soul of a Samurai one must look beyond themselves and see the greatness that lies around them.
