This is a beautiful sword. My girlfriend got this for me for my 18th birthday and we promptly used it to cut a home grown watermelon in half. I would not recommend using it for much more then an overglorified fruit cutter if your the kind of person who likes to test the equipment for it's purpose. If you like to have display pieces, this looks great on a shelf or table when paired with the Masahiro Sword Display Stand.

In closing, this sword is an excellent addition to any collection or a great starter piece for the sprouting collector.

Enjoy!

I pulled this sword out of it\'s box, which is quite nice in itself, and felt imediately that this was a quality piece. I have used it a bit since i got it and i have to say it doesn\'t wobble in my hands or feel off balance at all. If i had to actually use it to defend myself or anything like that i have faith that it will work well and not break. while i don\'t really plan on using it to cut things like trees, which people seem to be so fond of lol, i will definately use it to practice and, if need be,spar. I feel like it can take a good amount of abuse before any real damage would occur. The blade itself, at least when i looked it over rather thoroughly, had no imperfections that i could find and is well made. I applaud the manufacturers of this sword, well done.

this is a very nice sword, espescially considering the cost.
in no way does it feel cheaply made.
it does dot have the tacky nylon wrap, and its a very nice traditional feeling ray skin.
it also feels incredibly sturdy and sure of itself.
the blade itself is nice and sound, though not extremely sharp. it will however, cut just fine, im sure. but nothing you cant touch your thumb to.

i say light contact because it surely exceeds no contact, but i cannot say firsthand if it would hold up in \"full contact.\"

i recommend the blade as a fine piece.
every collection should have something \"traditional\" like this, and for a small time collector, this will suit you nicely.

This katana is just indescribable in 1000 words. Decent sharpness, decent functionality. Man. It\'s especially good for cutting up fruit and whatnot.(Don\'t overdue it, too much contact will scratch the blade. These aren\'t very bad though, nothing a proper cleaning kit won\'t fix.) Only one problem, however. It may be just luck of the draw, but sometimes small wooden shavings stick to the blade when unsheathed. This goes away after a while.

I JUST got this sword in the mail about 20 minutes ago. It looks great, and is still freshly oiled from when it was crafted. The blade was suprisingly sharp for how thick of a it is. The blade is a little heavy but simply holding the sword alone is intimidating. I wouldn\'t dare swing it inside, or try to even wield it in a combat-like fashion, because it is clearly a usable and deadly katana. One wrong swing and you could end up with a nice slice outa one of your limbs. If you were to ever drop it it would undoubtedly do severe damage to an un protected foot. Undoubtedly worth the 99$! It is without a doubt well crafted, and is worthy of being cared for!

For a sword that costs 99$ the only real downfall is the steel they used to make it. It is not as high quality as some of the strongest and deadliest katanas made for combat use (metal vs metal). In that scenario is the only one where you would see disadvantages for this sword, since the stronger steels would made nicks and dents in this one. That is the only reason this blade is affordable. And by no doubt this steel is still amazing and for anyone who isnt going into any ninja battles anytime soon this should definatly be acceptable!

I bought a Masahiro sword like this a while ago from a store for $200 and it looks almost identical to this one, except for the color of the sheath..

Although this sword is a very nice Iaido sword, the blade was somewhat disappointing because even though it claims to be made of medium-carbon steel, from what I can tell, the blade is made of stainless steel.. (Don\\\'t try to get it sharpened! Not only will it not hold the edge, it will destroy the decent edge that\\\'s already on it) The temper line is also fake, since the blade is not the right kind of metal, all they did was grind the sheen off part of the blade to make it look as though it had been tempered..

Also, the balance is very off.. Again, since the blade is not the right kind of metal, the blade gets thicker as you get closer to the handle, which makes the blade much heavier than the handle..

Despite all of this, it\\\'s still very nice Iaido sword and the edge that was already on it is good enough for cutting fruit and it\\\'s fantastic for practicing cuts and your Kihon.. For this price it\\\'s a great buy and I definitely recommend it for practice.
