i got this puppy for my pal for his birthday...this guy is a stereotypical viking, well over 6 ft tall, wide, full beard, etc...i wanted to get him a fully functional oriental sword for a nordic giant who only has an axe and a claymore...anyway, after some shipping shennanigans, it showed up yesterday and it is a MONSTER! I personally own a Cold Steel chinese war sword (fantastic, btw), and that beast is 1/4" thick. This sword is 5/16", nearly 3/8" at the base. the handle is tremendously long, allowing for some amazing velocity generated over a short swing. I don't reccommend sword abuse - i had an old red oak bokken that was ready to go, and this thing sliced clean through it. Possibly the best thing is how overall unfinished it looks (and i mean this in the nicest possible way)...the exposed wood in the handle is unfinished/unvarnished, but not so much so that it won't naturally smooth out with use. It actually looks nice that the blade blacking/finish is no where near uniform and polished - this is a mercenary's sword, not a gentleman's! The tsuba is nearly solid, and the cutouts aren't even the exact same. The entire scabbard is a piece of wood that slides over the business edge of the blade and has a leather buckle to secure it. Basically, if my Chinese war sword and my katana had filthy, filthy relations, this sword would be the offspring. It's raw, full of character, and so far, tough as nails. It's a fantastic deal if you want a substantial sidearm for the [potential] upcoming nuclear apocalypse. Highly recommended!!!

This is amazing!! It's heavy but nicely balanced.. but heavy! Seriously if you have strong arms and good dexterity you can pull off some amazing moves with this beast. It's not pretty but it is battle ready.

I love this thing and I've only had it for 2 hours. It's sharp out of the box and ready to go. It's not uniform at all and that makes it great. The blade actually still had oil on it when I touched it too. It's a great deal for what you get. It's a strong, sharp, deadly weapon that will look nice on a wall, should you decide to hang up your helm and leave fighting for the real men.

my girlfriend got me this for Christmas, and it is M-AZN-ing. it is so massive, and it hardly fits in the trunk of my car, and i drive a buik, so for those of you who know just how big the trunk of a buik is, you know how massive this sword is. (and for those of you who dont konw how large the trunk of a buik is, i and 4 of my female friends got into it one summer day and closed it. there was plenty of room for us, and no one was uncomfortable. ;) )

the thickness is amazing, and it is heavy, even for me. (i stand 6'1" and am a pretty big guy.) its unfinished wood, and the metal is beastly looking. it didnt come very sharp, but a simple grinding stone from walmart fixed all that. 15 minutes of sharpening made it a freaking beast.

if you want something for the upcoming (and its coming, just a matter of time) Zombie onslought, this is for you. it will easily take off an undead head, or a door, or a tree if you take a few wacks. all in all, a massive, beastly weapon. OWN IT!

Imagine an axe that you have impeccable control over and also as the ability to stab and slice as well as hack. That is what this sword is! Most would see this as an ugly but straightforward weapon. Personally, i think it is GORGEOUS!!! Hard, thick steel, coupled wonderfully with a nice hard wood handle. the nylon grips tend to slide but, *shrug* who really cares, right? This is a 'no-holds-barred' weapon. if you are ever on the aggrivated side of this item, you had better get serious. the momentum you can generate with a short swing is uncanny. In the hands of a skilled professional this is a lean mean killing machine. intoxicatingly sturdy and beautiful in only the most menacing ways. If there ever comes a time in life where one needs to dispatch a large number efficiently(namely Zombies, demons, or satan spawn) this is a great weapon to do so.

This Sword is a crap load of body-hacking, skull-splitting terror. Little work on the blade and you've got a wood and metal nightmare in your hands.

I might be slightly biased in saying this is an awesome sword as it is my first, but this thing is awesome. I'm considering sharpening it, but I dont want to ruin the edge if it is Katana style. About the only things I could think to complain about are very minor- There's a crack in the wood handle near the blade- nothing serious- and the sheath is kinda crappy- It either slips off to easy, or it sticks. Still, as this is my first blade and it seems freaking awesome, I'm overall very happy with it.
