This katana is a useful device for the devoted martial artist who wishes to remain out of debt and desires a functioning blade that will withstand many days of practice. This is an excellent weapon for a beginner, aiding in the development of basic skills and respect for the sword without endangering a true katana blade. The handle is also quite nice, since the beginning student does not have to immediately fret over proper cord wrapping and traditional caretaking. The full tang ensures the continuing survival of the sword, while the overall construction is pleasant to view.

I have owned this sword for about 4 years, now, and I still love every inch of it. The balance point is about 2 inches above the guard, which I find to be excellent for control of the blade. This is a particularily light blade, making it easy to swing fast, while still maintaining control. One must take great care, though, as the blade is quite sharp (which I found out the hard way... oops). The full tang construction, and the 420 J2 Stainless Steel mean that the blade will withstand many impacts (though, again, SHARP, be carefull).
Now, disregarding all functionality of this blade, it is still one of those blades one can draw and simply admire for quite some time. Being the first sword I\'ve ever owned, this blade will hold a special place on my wall for many years to come.

I bought this sword because I like the sturdiness of full-tang swords (even though I didn\'t plan on using it for practice), and I was impressed with the quality of this blade. The fact that it\'s stainless steel makes it a wallhanger for me, but it is so well crafted that it will withstand swinging it around and some light cutting exercises, and I\'m sure it could withstand swordplay with other swords of this same category and cut through lower quality steels! My only complaint with this item is that the scabbard is made of metal and it\'s hollow, with a rubber fitting on the bottom only, to hold the blade in the scabbard. So, sheathing the sword some times takes a little wiggling to get the blade tip in this fitting.

The saying goes, "A Samurai's Soul can be found within his blade," This Katana speaks to me in its aesthetics and its Functionality. It's design reflects a more modern aproach to tradition. A very good blade. However I prefer a sharper edge.

I love this sword, I just got it and it's sharper than I expected. If you're looking to buy a samurai katana, and it's your first time, go with this one. Read the reviews, but the sword speaks for itself. Again, an Awesome sword to start out with! Although I'm going to keep it nice, the sword is real and it is full contact. Down side: It's heavier than I thought it would be; pratice for half hour and your arms will get a little fatigued. Solid, Sturdy, and eye-appealing. Great starter sword! Great price!

People that are looking for a great sword (oreiental?) this is the one for you, just the other day I wanted to test the functionality of the weapon so I got a broom stick and took a swing at it, lets just say that the broom stick will not be as long as it used to be. one thing though the temperline is a fake. As I soon found this out after I did this. oppsss:/, but the weapon did not dullen at all

This Sword is a SUPURB sword. I have owned it for 2 yrs. now and I have cut throught many tree's and other hard objects. I recomend this item for any sword collector. I practice Iaido and I use my sword everyday. If u want 2 use this I sugest wrapin the end of the handle in hockey tape 2 maxamize comfortability. i sanded down the case and painted and laquared the case in black because i know the speckled red is quite ugly. This 420 J2 Stainless Steel Blade is very sturdy and quite strong. Even with it's many times of use it has never bent and has 2 TINY niks in the blade i needed a magnifying glass 2 find. i love it and recomend it 2 anyone with the knowledge and respect of the Samurai. if u don't respect this deadly weapon u will get hurt. it is very sharp and will not dull easily. So have fun and be careful.

I've owned this item for quite a time now and since it's full tang, it makes for an excellent sword for doing kata. It is fairly well balanced and has little to no blade wobble. However, being made of stainless steal, it would not be advisable for full contact useage.

When buying this weapon i was looking for a sword i knew would not break, cause since it was my first sword it would be nice to swing it around alittle and perhaps bash something with it...
It's a very strong sword, but i find the handle a bit to rough.
until now i have cut alot of wooden objects and the sword have not gotten a scratch from any of this...
I even fought alittle with another sword of the same steel type but would not recommend it due to the damage the edge sustains.
This is a big kitchen knife that shaped like a katana.

The Full Tang Samurai Katana was the first sword I purchased and I am very pleased with my first sword. For the price tag this sword surprised me on how very well made it was. The blade is pretty sharp (not razor sharp but if you don't watch it you can cut yourself or someone else with very little effort). The blade is nice and shiny and there was only one or two tiny nicks on the blade when i got it. The scabbard is a high quality aluminum and the fininish on it is beautiful, although the cloth around the top used for hanging it on a belt comes loose if you try and carry the weight of the sword on it. My younger brother has problems getting the sword out of the scabbard, and I have to apply some force to get it out of the scabbard also. The sword rattles in the scabbard so it is'nt a 100% fit. I have cut through 2x4's, cardboard and thin branches with ease but this is a warning to all who want to keep this blade in pristine condition; DO NOT use this sword on anything else except fruit cardboard and thin branches if you do not want your sword to get nicks, I have noticed this sword shows little nicks and dings a lot quicker then the Full Tang Ninja Katana my brother has. All and all this sword is worth every penny to me, the price tag is almost too cheap for the quality of this sword

This blade is sleek, smooth, sharp, cuts clean, and can cut through some thick stuff. I have only tested it on things such as tiny branches in my yard, but hell, the blade is flawless! I love it! It's my first katana, so I think its even beter as this, but WOW..This is even better than I imagined it would be! Not only that, but I have dubbed it "The Sexehness!"

I received this sword in the mail just today. It was the second sword I purchased. I learned from previous mistakes what brand you can trust and what you should stay away from. This one is made by United Cutlery which I also own a Dagger made by them which is excellent quality as is this Samurai sword (United Cutlery products begin with a UC for the model number on this website). I try and buy UC stuff whenever I can. The first thing I noticed about this sword was how heavy duty it looks. The handle resembles a kitchen knife but imagine the width to be a little more than an inch. It is a sturdy sword to say the least. The wood of the handle is reddish colored and is crafted very nicely. The scabbard while perhaps not as attractive as it could be (it is like a cracked red/black pattern, would look better all black if you ask me) is still well made. The blade is polished nicely but has a fake temper line. But still looks very nice. Like stated before the sword rattles in the scabbard but even so its not that bad. I am very impressed by this sword. I would highly recommend this sword if you want a good entry level Japanese sword for a good price. You can't go wrong with United Cutlery.

This is my first sword and I have to say you really seem to get your moneys worth with it. The sword feels very sturdy in hand and while the balance it's perfect it feels good to swing. The unwraped handle seem's to give the sword a certain uniqueness. The blade has no blemises and has kanji on one side and looks farily niffty. The color's are a little off in the picture but the sheath has a very attractive black crackle finish with a red background and the brass fittings go very well with the overall look of the sword. The only real thing that's bad about it is it's a little on the small side but other than that I'd recomend this to anyone looking for a good starter katana.

this is an absolute must have for any first time sword user/buyer. it is just a little on the heavy side for its size but its built extremely well, very sturdy. the blade has a wonderful diamond grind pattern to it as well (makes it look mean). the blade is actually very sharp, i was cleaning it one day and my fat cloth got caught on the edge, slit right through it like warm butter and into my finger. being stainless steel it will take some damage to the edge on metal-to-metal contact, but so far mine has held up well against tree limbs. overall its a wonderful sword.

On the blade itself is a false temper line probably made by electicity. In the blade itself is inscribed the Kajni for "honor, Courage and service" The symbol on the outside of the scabbard is a tomoe. If you play around with it alot or leave it in the sun the glue on the scabbard will wear away and the Sageo wil slide to the bottom. Suggested not to be used in cutting tournements but is a very unique looking Katana. It basically a long kitchen knife.

I saw this sword while I was visting Toronto and on closer inspection the blade was crooked and it was way to heavy and over balanced (top heavy) but ti is still a good buy for the price. I just would suggest not to hit anything with it, except maybe paper.

The first thing I did with this thing is slice a milk jug clean in half. There were no jagged edges or anything, it was a perfectly smooth cut. It\'s full tang, and nothing has ever come loose despite some fairly rigorous practice. I also use it as a machete for cutting brush, and apart from some scratches on the blade, it\'s held up perfectly. I keep it under my bed now for protection: out of all the swords in my collection, it\'s the only one I\'d swing at an intruder. My only complaint with the sword is that it looks kind of stupid. The handle is wooden with rivets through it. It gives it kind of a kitchen knife appearance. It barely looks oriental at all. If you\'re looking for something useable, buy it. If you\'re looking for a wall hanger, get something else. There\'s cheaper swords that look more authentic.
