This is the ultimate pirate's sword.. I used it on a wooden sheild I have and it simply shattered the wood.. the blade is thick and strong and able to take hard hits.

The more important thing to appreciate about this sword is its size. It is big. The picture really doesn't do justice to that. While not enormous, the blade is long, wide and relatively thick. The guard is also large and pretty chunky, although in an elegant and well-crafted manner. Needless to say when you have a sword this size, its also heavy, although the weight is pretty well balanced, lying mainly in the guard and tang. In terms of sharpness, my 'slight edge' rating was fairly generous. This is not a sharp blade; it doesn't need to be. The unique, serrated design means that it shreds rather than cuts (while an ordinary sword would cut a block of polystyrene cleanly in two, this made it literally explode) and has as much a bludgeoning as slicing effect. In practical terms, woe betide anyone who tried to either parry this sword or block it with a wooden shield. If it didn't break the opponents sword into pieces, it's quite capable of ripping it out of their hands. As for the shield, this thing is like a miniature chainsaw, so if it wasn't heavily reinforced with metal it would be torn to pieces in seconds.

Aesthetically, this is also a beautiful (if vicious) weapon. The guard in particular looks amazing and is very well crafted. I was also pleasantly surprised by the leather sheathe: its good quality and fits the sword snugly. While I have absolutely no complaint about the looks, there is one minor, practical thing that bothered me: the inside of the guard rubs slightly against my knuckles when holding the handle. Wearing a glove when wielding this blade is a simple enough solution to that problem.

Ultimately, if you're looking for a light, quick blade for graceful parries, lunges and general swordplay, then this isn't it. However, if you want a weapon that packs a very serious punch and looks great while doing it, then this could well be the sword for you.

Plus it carves an awesome thanksgiving turkey.
